Replacing walls with columns and beams is
something we do every day. And covering the courtyard wasn't difficult,
but it was important to make sure the two roofs with opposing pitches
drained properly. So we built rubber saddles to drain to two points
that, in turn, drain down inside the exterior walls, into the ground,
and away from the building. The saddles are heated with cables that can
be switched on in cold weather to prevent ice damming.
